Privacy Policy

Overview
Bass Boost is a Chrome extension and web service that enhances audio on any website. We built it with privacy in mind: no accounts, no tracking, no ads.
Data We Collect
We collect the minimum data necessary to operate the license system:
- Device ID — a randomly generated UUID created on first install. Stored locally in Chrome storage. Used only to bind your Pro license to your device. It is never linked to your identity.
- Email address — only if you start a free trial. Used to send your trial license key. Not stored beyond what is necessary to fulfill the request.
- Donation code — a unique code (e.g.
BAS-XXXX-XXXX) generated when you initiate a donation. Stored temporarily (30 days) in our database to allow license redemption.
Data We Do NOT Collect
- Your browsing history or the websites you visit
- Audio content you listen to
- Your name, location, or any demographic information
- Cookies or cross-site tracking identifiers
- Any data from pages where the extension is active
How Your Settings Are Stored
All extension settings (bass level, EQ, presets, Night Mode, etc.) are stored using Chrome's built-in chrome.storage.sync API. This syncs your settings across your Chrome profile on different devices. We never receive or have access to your settings.
License & Payments
Payments are processed exclusively through Saweria, a third-party donation platform. We do not handle or store payment card information.
Saweria sends us a webhook notification when a donation is completed. This notification contains the donation amount and the code you pasted in the message field. No other payment information is shared with us.
Please refer to Saweria's Privacy Policy for how they handle your payment data.
Backend & Data Retention
Our backend runs on Vercel serverless functions. License data is stored in an Upstash Redis database with a 30-day TTL (time to live). After 30 days, license records expire automatically unless a paid activation has been recorded.
Active Pro licenses (paid) are retained indefinitely to allow silent re-verification.
Third-Party Services
- Vercel — hosting and serverless functions. May log request IPs for security purposes. Privacy Policy
- Upstash — Redis database for license storage. Privacy Policy
- Saweria — donation processing. Privacy Policy
- Google Fonts — used on this website only, not in the extension. Privacy Policy
Permissions Justification
The extension requests the following Chrome permissions:
- tabCapture, scripting, activeTab — required to inject the audio processing engine into the active tab and capture audio for processing via the Web Audio API.
- storage — to save your settings and license status locally.
- tabs — to display the hostname of the current tab in the popup.
- host_permissions (<all_urls>) — required because the extension enhances audio on any website you choose to use it on, not just a fixed list of sites.
Children's Privacy
Bass Boost is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
